Do you need good reason to issue a restraining order?

See my dad wants to get a restraining order on my boyfriend because my dad is a crazy, cynical alcoholic. I mean I am 14 and my bf is 16. I know that sounds pretty low, but we have done nothing wrong and both have agreed to wait until i'm 18 to have . We have a mature relationship and do all the exact opposite my judgemental father suspects, who btw has never met him so has no right to judge. But anyway, due to the fact my dad is phsyco, he's willing to go to extreme and issue a restraining order on him. Now it really breaks my heart becuase he really is the only thing that makes me happy. And i know i'm just a minor so my dad unfortunatley has the right to do this. But my question is though, wouldn't he need a good reason to? Like any threat of violence or harm towards me? We have a healthy relationship so my boyfriend would never do this to me. So is it still possible he can p one through? Btw, would I have to go to the courtroom with him if he tries to issue one? ..Thanks for all the possible help! :)
